SIRAT

A father and his young son arrive at a rave deep in the mountains of southern Morocco, searching for their daughter and sister, who has been missing for several months. Surrounded by electronic music, dust and a nomadic rave community, they join the group as it travels towards one final party in the Sahara. As the journey takes them deeper into the harsh and unforgiving landscape, Oliver Laxe transforms what initially appears to be a spontaneous road movie into a hypnotic and spiritual exploration of grief, human connection, physical limits and the fragile boundary between life and death.

Sirât premiered in Competition at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, where it was awarded the Jury Prize, shared with Mascha Schilinski’s Sound of Falling. The film provoked strong and sometimes divided reactions among critics, with particular praise for its immersive combination of image and sound, its striking use of the Moroccan landscape and its increasingly intense, physical approach to storytelling.
